The “Paris Olympics,” whose opening ceremony will be held on July 26, 2024, at 7:30 PM (Japan time: July 27, 2:30 AM) with a grand parade down the Seine River in Paris, will continue with intense competitions until August 11. The games will feature 32 sports and 329 events, including four new sports that are garnering attention: “breaking,” “skateboarding,” “sport climbing,” and “surfing.”
The first medal for the Japanese team was won by Natsumi Tsunoda (SBC Shonan Beauty Clinic), who claimed the gold medal in the women’s judo 48kg category final held at midnight on the 28th. This achievement marks the first gold medal in this weight class since Ryoko Tani, affectionately known as “Yawara-chan,” won it at the 2004 Athens Olympics 20 years ago.
In the men’s judo 60kg category third-place match, also held at midnight on the 28th, Ryuju Nagayama (SBC Shonan Beauty Clinic) won the bronze medal, securing the second medal for the Japanese team.
We look forward to continued outstanding performances from the Japanese athletes.
